Dear Lynn

Very true, but I also felt that Taos was more magical and inspiring than Santa Fe, frankly. The light, the colors, the geography, the presence of the relatively intact pueblo -- very powerful to artists and writers.

Thanks for your comment.

Thank you very much for including a mention of my book, Literary Pilgrims, in your excellent piece on Taos as a literary destination.

Santa Fe is also a fascinating treasure trove of literary legacies, and though it is a much bigger town than Taos, it seems to me that Taos possesses a much more intense literary circle than Santa Fe ever had.
This may be due to the fact that when Mabel first arrived in New Mexico, stopping in Santa Fe, she realized early on that other writers would come to dominate the social scene there, including famous poet and editor Alice Corbin Henderson.

So Lujan made a beeline for Taos, realizing that she could dominate the salon-style circles there, and hence was the famous Taos put on the world's art and culture map.

Thanks again for the citation.

All the best,
Lynn Cline

Liked your brief hist.of writing in Taos. Have been coming & going Taos since 1967. For the
last 4 summers have built my studio/dwelling west of the gorge bridge. Simple & fine for
my retirement (will be full time Taosano 11/1/08) retiring from zuni pueblo child psychologist/counselor. SPECIFICALLY I'D LIKE TO JOIN OR REVIEW AN ONGOING WRITERS GROUP
FOR POETRY & SHORT STORIES. ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED. arthur
