I’m that bane of authors, an avid book reader who buys few books–I use the library instead. In the past I used to by non-fiction–never fiction–and now as an octogenarian, I live in such a small place I have no permanent shelves for even non-fiction.

On the other hand I DO buy books as gifts quite regularly–easy to ship to children and grandchildren–and the author’s signature and message makes it a special gift.

So, i don’t approach book signings at book stores, even though I would love to–especially if I’ve already read the book–because i feel obligated then to buy.

Mary-Frances: Thanks for the lovely comment. Book tours are expensive and risky in term of return on investment, so it pays to define who your readers are and where they can be found. And then go there.
