I am not going to stop writing. Finding a publisher who fills my needs is very hard. With my first two books especially. My third is now ready and I need to find a publisher that is not a POD. Thank you.

I just wanted to thank you, Mr. Rinzler, for your work on this blog. As an aspiring writer, the enthusiasm from yourself and other folks like Ms. Faust and Nathan Bransford is both helpful and encouraging.

As a first time author this is good news. The recent NYT articles painted a dark scenario to be sure. I've got plenty of ideas for new projects and a lot of enthusiasm for the work. I hope you're right about all of this. I had coffee with a Powell's publicity rep today, who said that all of the negativity was premature and that the naysayers had been predicting (incorrectly) the demise of the printed word for years.

Great article. I agree wholeheartedly. No one is going to stop publishing books and it was a huge mistake for Houghton to announce that they aren't buying (do they want agents to stop submitting?). The week of December 15, the last week many publishers were open before the holidays I made three book deals, one at a very aggressive auction, and the week after that I received two offers from publishers. Publishing and the buying and selling of books is hardly dead.

Changes are on the way and while not all change is good, I think in this case we'll see some exciting things.

As both a book author and an M.B.A., I very much agree that a "paradigm shift" is occurring in the publishing world. More power is being put in the hands of authors, and I think this is a beneficial trend.

Also, I noticed you mentioned Twitter, which can be a very significant technique in the marketing arsenal of a book publisher or author. Twitter coupled with Facebook or blogging or both can be utilized to effectively reach target reading audiences without spending any money. Definitely a boon to authors and publishers!
